REMAKE.org

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I opened an non-profit called REMAKE.org inspired by the "bag project". All of the pieces and stories that I have received from my friends have inspired me make lots of bags. For now, I am working on the practicum one's first and then who knows where this will go! I made a backpack style using some of my own t'shirts that are important to me- what a great journey the memories took me on!

Let Gustav be gentle!

Oh yeah...almost forgot

I launched (re-launched, actually) a blog for my art stuff on the web. I saw that Marilyn did also, and it looks to be very good. I am building a list of web links to our Goddard group on the side of my blog "In Vitreous Humor", cobbled together from the links I knew off the top of my head and what I was able to gather from my notes from last residency.

At my blog, I am trying to build some reflections on the process I use to create/evolve and change the work I am currently doing. I appreciate/want/need/encourage/elicit/solicit (sorry, no $$)/desire/accept/require comments about the work. We work so much in isolation from one another.. in my perfect dreamworld, we would all live about 50 miles or less from Goddard, have Florida weather (OK, without the hurricanes) some of the time (last res was beautiful) and all have our private studios nearby to share the ACTUAL work (I am getting very un-enthusiastic about digital reflections of the artwork.) In particular, think about Pavlos' work (seen at the student show in G1 and G2 and look at the (excellent, but...) image on his website. How do you capture the texture of fabric, encaustic and oil pigment digitally??

David

Aw... shucks!

Well, I've just been informed that the student council met on Monday and selected someone, not me, to be the student rep to the board of trustees. I just wanted to thank Lauren in particular for her enthusiastic support for this endeavor. There's always next year... and probably just as well as things look to be a bit hectic for me with a new part-time position at the TLTgroup job.

Again, thanks y'all,
David

Thought this was a neato example of an arts organisation raising funds, being involved in the community and just having fun.

I just heard from Rick Benjamin and Ghalib.
Rick has been in Maine at a retreat since Goddard and Ghalib is still at a castle in the UK.
What lucky Bastards! But we love them. I can't wait to hear Ghalib's stories. It sounds like his trip has been fairly eventful. Hope you guys are are doing well.

Hey Jason umm I have already sent Chelsea my clothes for her practicum... SO where the HEll is your cd for your website??? Hmmmm - Hugs- Lauren

Grace Anne pictures...

Grace Anne just sent me some great pictures from our trip to the river.
Behold!

April's response regarding the Board of Trustees election...

Here's what will happen. Right now, there are TWO folks from MFAIA-VT who are seeking the position. If you review the memo I originally sent, you'll see that we will need to hold a run-off election. Only ONE candidate from each program is eligible to run for student trustee. AFTER that is done, then Student Council itself will vote for the student rep.

I am formally announcing the nominees to student council this evening on our call. I will be contacting our program tomorrow to set up the election. I will be asking David and the other nominee to send an email to our program outlining why they wish to be the trustee and then I will ask for a vote via email. I will then contact the nominee with the most votes. They then prepare their statement to student council. Council will vote later this month. The student rep is an important liaison position, especially between student council and the Board of Trustees.
If you've other questions, just review my email of July 14th (everything from the charter is outlined there).

Thanks Lauren. You will hear from me soon. - April

A true AND funny joke.

Hey Guys, what has two thumbs and is goning to see Radiohead in concert in Philidelphia tomorrow? (with two thumbs pointing right back at me) This guy. My friend called and gave me a ticket to see them tomorrow night for my BIRTHDAY, so I get there around 5, go to the concert, then the next day walk around and see a bunch of art work including the work of; Rodin, Noguchi, MOORE, the Calder family, Lipchitz, and Saint Godens. I cant wait.
Luaren, How can I go about voting for McCurry '08?
Well I have much todo today so I will leave it at that and say goodbye.

Dr.David S. McCurry for Student Representative to the College Board of Trustees

I just nominated "our" David to be the Student Representative to the College Board of Trustees.
Sure he has oodles of experience and will be a great asset to Goddard.. But more importantly I will find out the secret details from his meetings Mwu ha ha !!! No really its the first reason. so every body VOTE FOR DAVID!!! Man its funny being your "Press Secretary" considering who your brother is...

The Abu Ghraib Action Playset & NYC

Hey David, Thanks for posting James and Erics URLs.
I was going to go to a conference in NYC after our next residency but the dates are wrong. So instead I am going to be responsible and go to the fall conference which is on the weekend I was going to have my big crazy ass 30th birthday party. Grrr being responsible is a bitch. I still may do something in NYC after our next residency... I feel like if I fly all the way up there I need to make the most of it. This last trip was Boston/Providence... NExt NYC! Maybe another time Montreal!

If anyone is interested I have posted my manuscript on my website. My peeps in the biz say this is fine but Matt thinks I am crazy to post it. What do you guys think about posting Manuscripts? Keep in mind this is a picture book manuscript so it is only 2.5 pages.

Also I am organizing a 3 part workshop on crtical discourse for the next residency... Anybody want to help?

James' last name is NOT Mego!!

Oooops. James' last name is not Mego, (toy manufacturer), but Dolph. Sorry James.
D.

Elusive James Web Page

James had shared this with me once before, and I'm glad I found it again. Don't think he will mind if I post the link here.

Jame's Mego Page link.

The different categories are hilarious. Truly inspired stuff. I'll send him an email also.

David.

Huzzah for Grace Anne joining us!!!

Yay for Grace Ann joining us online. :) Lauren

part three

more drift wood plus camping

part 2

more drift wood plus sweeeeeet sunset.

On behalf of Eric the Viking...

So I found this slip of paper in some pants (yeah... took me this long to get around to doing my laundry) with the web address Eric wrote down. He has some of his students helping him put this together and it looks great. His artwork is amazing and could hang along side any of the Jasper Johns we have down here in Greenville.

Hope you don't mind me sharing, Eric...

Dave

thanks be to Laurenzo

part one of drift wood sculpting

HELP!

I would like to post some pictures of my camping trip and also drift wood sculptures. If any one knows how to do this, PLEASE let me know. Other then this difficulty I havent much else to complain about. Other then the fact that when I finally arrived back at my apartment, I realized that I forgot to take out my garbage, meaning I now share my cool bachelor pad with thousands of fruit flies. Basterds! Well I am now waiting for my truck to be serviced and typing is the only way to avoid the sales guys. OH finally my car is done. I miss you guys like the deserts miss the rain. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,Jason

David is secretly a master water garden architect...

So I was just out feeding my koi and playing with Gavin when it occurred to me...
I am the only one out of our group that knows David is secretly a master water garden architect...
You will all be amazed at the beauty that David has constructed in his back yard. He should post pictures so you all can see. Its just too bad that he can't give you a glass of wine as he explains it all as he did for me. - Lauren

Where are Chelsea & Marilyn?? And what about James?

SO I can't help but notice that we have not heard from Chelsea or Marilyn...

And what about James? He said he got the email... Somebody needs to wrangle these Goddardites. Call me selfish and demanding but I want to hear from my awesome Goddard people.

Thanks for the post on my site Susan. :) SO I have never been to Ireland before... You say its your favorite place... Do you have any specific places you would recommend? We have rented a cottage in Ballyvaughn so that will be our base.

Look forward to hearing from everybody. - Lauren

Hello Everybody

I just thought that I would be a good blogger and chime and and say "hi".  My ride home from Goddard was uneventful and that's a good thing.  I am still feeling a bit of culture shock being back in Albany.  My house has not closed yet, but I am told that it will be closing soon.  There's always one last thing that needs to be resolved.  Here's a picture of the house for those of you who I haven't seen it already.

The sad thing is the longer it takes for the house to close, the less time I will have to spend in it before I am off to CA.  I need to be in CA no later than the first week in October when I will be presenting my practicum project to date.

I miss you all, if only you all lived right off of I8o, I could visit on my way out West.

Pavlos

Materials FYI

Chelsea gave me the name of the following glass company. I needed opaque white sheet glass to make the type of palette I like to paint on with oils, and had a really hard time finding it. This place rocks!! (for glass)...

Dr David Jekyll and David Scott Hyde

OK.. so I was successful in changing "Dr. David S..." to my art blog name "David Scott..." I suffer from MVPD (multiple virtual personality disorder). I love the new website Lauren.. soooo pretty!!! The drawings of your Gavin are fantastic and your plug for my website is kind and beautiful.

I am the "Featured Artist" at the International Plein Air Painters website this month:
http://ipap.homestead.com/plein_air-feature.html
which is a nice thing...although PA painters tend to heavily identify with the French impressionists too much for my taste. We'll see what kind of feedback I get.

Still hoping we can get James, Eric and other table mates to chime in.

D.

Did I mention that I work on a computer all day long....

So maybe I post too frequently... But I love you guys. :)
Ok so last night I totally redid my website. I guess the transition to home and not hanging out with you guys until 2am means that I stay on the computer far too long.
Soooo... Here is my new site. I have listed Pavlos and David under my links page. I want to include everyone else in our little group so if you have a website post the address!

Big Hugs-
Lauren

Home again

Hi, G3 friends:
It's so good to go on line and catch up with your news--and glad to discover that Hawka is Jason. (Jason, I lost the napkin with your email and phone number on it--can you resend? Thanks.) I'm sorry reentry was such a trial.

David, I've gone on your website--several times now. Your work is wonderful, and the website is incredibly well done. It's great to see folks' work--helps keep our Goddard connection palpable during our time apart.

The Goddard Express sounds like fun! My flight was fine--but the taxi ride to the airport was a nightmare. The driver almost wrecked twice. We need new options!!!!

I miss you all--having my coffee and wishing we were chatting in the cafeteria.
Love,
Susan

Oh ya, reality kinda sucks

So, I am finally back to reality, unfortunatly, and it didn't take long for the great feeling of purity and bliss to be washed away by the feeling of frustration by my work situation. Everybody has gone crazy, maybe they were before I left and I just forgot, either way I feel extra sad for not being at Goddard. I went camping right afterwards and had a blast. I don't thing I have dranken that much whiskey and eaten so much meat in my life. The weather was great though and if I can figure out how to post pictures I will attach them to the next post. Well for now I will say goodbye and I hope everyone is well. Only five more monthstill Goddard.

The painting that started my current project...

Here is the painting that started my current project.... Now I wan to see Y'all's work! :)

2006 Paintings...

Hey Guys,
SO I recently had a request to show these paintings again and I thought I would share them with you guys... In 2006 I got a North Carolina Regional Artist Project Grant based on these. The concept was based on femininity and that one article that all most all women have. Panties. So I had women friends from all over the country mail me their panties. Then I made paintings that incorporated that woman's spirit and panties. I also have individual stories for each panty which are fun... One of my favorite was the letter I got back from my Southern Baptist sister proclaiming that she loved me but that I had deffinatly, finnally gone completely crazy and that she would most definatly NOT be sharing her panties with the world. So an additional level of relationship to undergarments was discovered. I think they are fun. :) (The Hello Kitty panties are mine!)

Goddard Express

There were a ton of people from residency on the Amtrak train out of Montpelier Fri. morning. James and I had some good conversation, Kalil, Josh and Hannah (G1ers). Many, many others. I think James called it the "Goddard Express" with Montpelier train station (shack) our "magic platform". Nice but long drive back with my two sons and my middle son's girl friend. Good to be home, but still buzzing from such a great residency. Look forward to the continued conversation.

David

Stuck in Cincinatti....

Hey guys,

Hope everyone else got home ok... I am hoping to get home to husband and puppy some day.

FOr now I am stuck in Cincinatti because of weather delays.

I went to Providence for the day yesterday and drove past Peter Hocking on Thayer street.
It was very surreal to see him away from Goddard. It was as if Goddard was following me.

I will post drawings that I am working on when I get home.

Hope to hear from everyone soon.

Lauren
